Jupiter; Song 12: C’Mon Girl

From my understanding this is basically a John song as he came up with the bass-line in the verse and the snare work that drives the chorus. And I really feel for Flea because, well, this song has probably the hardest bass-line to play as far as Chili Pepper songs go. If you don’t believe me try playing air bass guitar along with the verse of the song (using fingers, not a pick). It’s just so fucking fast. Apparently John came up with the bass riff, which makes sense because if any bassist ever stumbled upon it in a jam, they would have the common sense to go “Wow, that’s such a good sounding riff, it’s a pity its too hard to play because it really suits the song.” Well I would at least. I guess suppose its good to come up with parts that challenge other bandmates. In completely unrelated news I would like everyone to know that Shaun has agreed to learn the solos for Eruption (Van Halen), Dazed and Confused (Led Zeppelin) and Master of Puppets (Metallica) for our rock bands next gig.

Lyrically the song goes through different styles throughout verse and chorus, with the verses having the Kiedis Style of Lyric Writing™ that involves coming up with a melody and shoving any words that fit into it, and the chorus being “C’Mon Girl, lets get it right” repeated ad nauseaum. The verses work however, and has some of my favourite lines of the album, such as “Conveyor belts are moving and I want you to be sure of that”.

Hmmmm, not too much else to say, Chad’s drumming in the chorus is nice and expansive, I really like the pre-chorus and there’s a nice tribute to Vincent Price at the end of the song with the maniacal laughter. Overall the song is OK, but not outstanding.

Meh.............

"Shaun has agreed to learn the solos for Eruption (Van Halen), Dazed and Confused (Led Zeppelin) and Master of Puppets (Metallica) for our rock bands next gig."

Ummm, what about Fur Eliseing it up??
There's still $5.00 up for grabs!!

"a nice tribute to Vincent Price at the end of the song"

AHahA! Mad!!

"Eyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssss???"
"Wait, wait...I'll get it....."

"You should make a compendium of reviews when you are done, and send it off."

He's right - mad reviews.

But one of the best I've ever read was one Arj did on a Radiohead concert on his blog - he actually writes really, really well!!

You should read it Nitch.....

Uhhh, the website IS the compendium! Its just all a bit of fun, although the possibility of getting paid is alluring... From now on anyone who logs on to the site owes me $10!! Done!

And I just went through the Bark-ives (as I have christened it) to see the Radiohead review, its good stuff! It makes me wonder why I've never really got into Radiohead, given that everyone raves about them all the time. Probably because they're the original emo.

'Bark-ives'

Hahahahahaha

Do Emo punks claim to like radiohead?

I don't see why they would - it's totally un-emo-ish, even though it's the ultimate 'alternative' goodness....

Anyway, Arj isn't an emo, and Arj likes Radiohead, hence according to simple logic principles: No emos like Radiohead!

P.S. They're already christened 'Tales from the Bark-side'

(He aleady has some 'Bark-ives' - you got that from his site too!!!)

i think it encapsulates the late funk movement of the 70s combined with the pionering styles of the chillis late 80, early 90s

i think it best represents sly and the family stone in the bridge section but still maintaining the post modern funk movement of the late 60s in the chorus

great song...took me back to the swing days of the 30s

hang on...i havent heard the song...

Yeah this songs not bad. Not great but not bad. The bass line does sound technically hard but it doesnt really do it for me. I reckon maybe 2 of the strings are tuned the same to make it easier for flea. Then again if anyone can do a mental bass line like that he can.

On another note, why have you departed from your original nomenclature??

Suddenly from Song 11 onwards, you seem to have adopted a new

"Jupiter, Song X: ABC"

format in favour of the previous

"Jupiter; Song X: ABC"

format.

I am dismayed at this change and lack of consistency. How dare you flaunt convention like that??

I believe that you were first right in placing a, carefully chosen, I'm sure, semi-colon after the name of the first disc, as that is the correct usage of that particular grammatical punction mark. It signifies a longer pause is therefore appropriate in separating the disc name from the individual song name - a task unsuited to the lowly comma.

I just don't know what to think anymore! My whole world is crashing down around me - is nothing constant anymore??
If we can't rely on uniform blog titles, what on God's green Earth can we rely on?!?

Huh?? Will somebody please tell me?? WHAT?!??

errrr what are you talking about Tom? The semi-colons are right there! They always were! You just can't change that kind of stuff through editing!

I think that the comma fits more appropriately. From my knowledge of the subject, its use is the convention in this instance.

Maybe it's a sign?
